The species within this catalogue follow the taxonomy of the 2014 checklist by Liston et al for the most part. However, where the taxonomy in that checklist differs from the World Catalogue of Symphyta, the taxonomy within the World Catalogue is given precedence. The taxonomy of the tribe nematini follows the recent work by Prous et al. An account for each species is given. The species descriptions are not meant to act as a main means of identification but will hopefully add confidence to any keyed out identification. The taxonomy of sawflies is subject to much debate and change is likely as DNA analysis unravels some of the complexity. Note that the use of common names is for the most part avoided.
